We Will Project

Celebrating Creative Expression: Calthorpe Academy and BOA Unite for Inspiring Dance Project
As part of the national #WEWILL youth social action campaign, Calthorpe Academy recently had the pleasure of collaborating with students from Birmingham Ormiston Academy (BOA) on a powerful co-produced creative project, funded by The Ormiston Trust.
This exciting partnership brought BOA students and Calthorpe's Engagement for Life learners together to explore how young people express their voices – especially through non-verbal communication. Over a series of weeks, the students co-designed and delivered a range of dance and movement workshops tailored to meet the individual needs and abilities of our learners.
The sessions were a space for self-expression, connection, and joy, highlighting the many ways our learners communicate and participate in shared creative experiences. The project culminated in a filmed performance, produced in collaboration with BOA’s Stage & Screen department, which beautifully captured the energy and spirit of everyone involved.
This initiative is a shining example of co-production in action – incorporating the four key elements: co-commissioning, co-design, co-delivery, and co-assessment. It also reflects the inclusive, learner-centred ethos we are proud to champion at Calthorpe.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the staff, students, and supporters who helped make this project possible. The impact on our learners – in confidence, communication, and creativity – has been remarkable.
Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to celebrate our learners' voices in new and inspiring ways.
